Floating on

I had shivers running across my outstretched hand, as I fiddled with my phone and heard an absent clock chime unseen nocturnal hours. It had been so long when the call had come through at night

'It's me'
I knew. I knew the voice. It didn't need a name. It was a voice I had once grown to wake up to. It was a voice that I used to snuggle up to, late in the night, when after work I slid into the darkness of the warm bed.

'How are you?'
Why do we always deal in inane questions at the most important moments in life?

The other side sounded like good ol pal who just kept the phone few hours back and called up again to check how I am.
I wanted to ask why and I did.
'i called you because....'

I feel like a message in a bottle. Afloat but not sure where I am going to go!
